Habitat Landscape Architecture

08.03.2024
Habitat Landscape Architecture emerged from the merger of Hoffmann & Müller and Laubrausch.
The name came from the managing directors themselves; we supported the discovery process with a competitor analysis and the categorisation of possible directions.
Our subsequent task was to design the visual identity. Because strategy and design go hand in hand at Atoll.

A habitat is a living space that by definition has a boundary to its environment, but at the same time must be open to it for the vital exchange of resources. The idea of permeable boundaries is reflected in the logo. And in a different form in the second key element of the design, a grid pattern.
Our client immediately recognised this as a gentle, yet precisely planned transition of a paved area into an area of vegetation. A typical stylistic feature of contemporary, increasingly ecologically orientated landscape architecture, which Habitat stands for.
Even without such a substantive legitimisation, the new design simply shows the right mix of approachable and cool. In this way, it pleasantly breaks with design patterns that seem to be endlessly repeated in the architecture scene.

The word mark and the habitat-la.ch website, also conceived and designed by Atoll, are the central pillars of the visual identity. The technical realisation partner was taywa in Zurich.
